Dr. Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir, Father of Former Trilogy Alum Unjustly Jailed

Joy Alamgir is an Alumni from Trilogy here in Austin. His father has become a political prisoner in Bangladesh. His letter is below:

Dear Friends,

I am a TU2k Alumn.

I'm writing to ask for your help in generating international momentum to
free my father from unjust imprisonment in Bangladesh. He has been kept in
prison without bail since February 4, 2007, and with very little access to
legal help.

The military-backed government has filed a series of farcical cases, and is
persecuting him essentially to silence him, for he has always been a very
vocal pro-democracy political leader. He was jailed and tortured back in
2002 in a similar pattern.

Our legal recourse is minimal, as the government has suspended fundamental
rights, extended its authority to arrest without showing any cause, set up
special tribunals outside regular legal confines, and severely restricted
due process, including the right to bail, and even the right to appeal
against its summary verdicts.

At this point, our hope rests on international pressure on the government.

I'd really appreciate if you can use your networks of friends and
well-wishers to spread the word as far and wide as possible. We want the
government to know that many people around the world care about human rights
abuses, even in a distant land like Bangladesh. The most effective way to
voice your concern would be to send a fax according to the instructions on
the site. More conveniently, there's also a "Send A Message" feature on the
site, where you can put in your name, etc., and a message will be sent on
your behalf to the government.

I'd really appreciate if you can take a few minutes to help end this
injustice. If you can also forward this message to a few of your close
friends to get their support that would substantially help more.
