I had to post about this. I just saw a story on Frontline / World that had originally aired last October. This is awe inspiring in so many ways.
To summarize, Kiva.org provides a web site the provides micro-loans to very small businesses all over the world. Lenders are individuals that use their credit cards to provide funds to very small business that petition for their loans on the site: www.kiva.org
I find this truly inspiring on so many levels. Kiva provides the mechanism to get money from those who have to those who don't. But, not just that. These are people trying to help themselves and their communities by building small businesses - not individuals looking for handouts. In fact, the story said that loan repayment is 100%.
To me, this is what the promise of a web based worldwide community is all about. Watch the story.

The US needs to adopt a similar program. Get the freeloaders off of welfare.
